James, The Robotic Bartender

Ever remember thinking that one day robots will eventually take over the world? Looks like it might just happen! Humans are building and trying to perfect robots in a way that they can assist us. I never thought I could get a drink from a robot anytime soon?

While in Germany and Scotland, European scientists have been studying the way robots interact with humans when ordering drinks at bars.

The experiment was with customers who positioned themselves directly at the counter and training towards the counter or a staff member. Some also gestured at the bartender and some were still talking to their friends. These findings were programmed into James to try and get the best accurate result.

These researchers are developing this project as way to demonstrate how advanced computing can be used.

James is made from a tablet head, with a cartoon face. He has a torso and an arm with a four fingered hand which can pick up a bottle and put it on the bar in front of a customer who asked for it. He can also speak and respond to them.

The point of this experiment is to get James to have socially intelligent behaviours that humans take for granted.

Now you be the judge! Will robots be the new thing? Or will they take over the world?
