What springs to mind when you read Google GLΛSS? An amazing pair of glasses that incorporate everything you could ever imagine your smart phone doing without having to actually use your hands? That’s exactly what Google has done with their latest invention. Think Siri, minus iPhone, plus more features and better understanding of your voice.

Google GLΛSS has simplified everything you could ever want your device to do. Simply say “Ok Glass” followed by almost anything and these amazing glasses will do it for you.

The way they work is by using something called Augmented Reality. In simplified terms this means looking through the glasses and seeing your normal world, but in the top right corner seeing a small high definition screen. This screen does everything. This is where your voice commands and gestures are recognised (yes gestures – it picks up on tiny things like eye movements). These voice commands and gestures can do everything, from taking photos or videos, doing a Google search, getting directions, chatting using voice-to text, video chats, as well as things as specific as hands free recipes!

So now you’re thinking great, my hands have been freed up now that I barely need to use my cell phone, but what about my ears? Surely In order to hear directions, video calls, or even GLΛSS’ responses you would need to have headphones clogging up your ears. But no, Google has come up with an amazing solution to this. All the sound you hear from Google GLΛSS goes directly into the bones of your cranium, making it just like listening to headphones, except you are able to hear everything else going on around you. Interestingly enough, if you want to hear what Google GLΛSS is saying better and don’t want to up the volume; you simple cover your ear.

I reckon these things are pretty amazing, even though I can’t quite see myself spending my life wearing half framed glasses. But looks like Google GLΛSS is collaborating  with Ray Ban’s to create a better aesthetically designed model.
