Smart Diapers Can Tell If Your Child is Sick

Contrary to communal convention, dirty diapers are not just full of waste. They contain a lot of information about the health of your child, and none of it; until now. The Smart Diaper is product created by Pixie Scientific that uses a QR code on the diaper, and can track sings of urinary tract infection, prolonged dehydration, and even developing kidney problems, and send that information straight to your smartphone while you change your child.

The diaper in conjunction with the app can alert you to conditions that require immediate attention, and will keep a track of your child’s overall health for months or years, and will automatically identify any emerging trends.

The reagen panel used to analyze the information within the wet diaper is separated by the diaper’s absorbent core, and never comes in contact with the child’s skin. None of the information is traceable, and any data shared for academic research purposes will be anonymous.

Pixie Scientific is currently running an indiegogo campaign to crowd source the money needed to commercialize their product. You can find more information on the Smart Diapers, and on how to help their effort athttp://www.indiegogo.com/projects/smart-diapers.

Wouldn’t it be great if the app not only analyzed the contents of the diaper, but also sent a text to your phone telling you when they needed to be changed? What are some of the cool things you would like to see added to the app? Let us know in the comments below.
