There are many problems with the traditional alarm systems most of us use today to protect our homes. It is very limited, basically it detects movement and makes a loud noise, and some of them even contact police, which is pretty handy. However, the team behind the Canary just blew all of the current personal home security systems out of the water!
Canary is a single device, containing an HD video camera and a heap of sensors that track motion, temperature, air quality, vibration, sound, and activity. All this controlled entirely through a free app on your iOS or Android device at a distance. The Canary will send an alert to your device in case of sudden temperature change that may indicate a fire, to sounds or movements that may indicate an intrusion. You can instantly look into your home through the app, and see what is going on.
The project is being crowd-funded through Indiogogo.com, and as of right now it has surpassed its original goal of U$100,000, and has acquired U$1,053,710. This is a good indicator that people are very keen for this type of technology. The early adopter price for the Canary is U$199, excluding a U$30 shipping free for anywhere else other than the USA.
This gadget may be the start of a new generation of home security technology that we may have access to as early as next year. What are some of the features you would like to see added to the Canary? Let us know in the comment section below!
