People suffering from conditions like Parkinson’s or Familial Tremors can find everyday tasks like brushing their teeth or eating cereal rather difficult. LiftWare’s active tremor cancelation technology is a revolutionary approach to helping the many people who have to deal with those conditions. Their unique device reduces the amount of force needed to counteract, and filter out unintentional tremors while preserving intentional hand movement.

Right now, the current equipments used to overcome tremors are large, awkward structures. LiftWare’s spoon requires virtually no force, and allows users to remain free, feel natural, and comfortable.

The technology responds quickly to a person’s tremor, and is able to tell the difference between intentional and unintentional motion. Sensors are used to detect motion, and a microcontroller directs motors in the handle of the spoon to move accordingly, and cancel the tremors. The controls are optimised to cancel motion at the 4 and 7 cycles per second range, as it is the most common for Essential and Parkinsonian tremors.

The video shows how effective the technology is, and we can only imagine how this type of tech is going to change the lives of people suffering from tremors. This technology should also develop to help patients in other areas, maybe one day they will be able to incorporate it to a car! Whatever happens though, it is certain that it will improve the life of many people.
