Neo-Humanity: A Billionaire’s Quest to Immortality

Think of the Matrix; on steroids. This is what Russian billionaire Dmitry Itskov aims to achieve through his GF2045 conferences. In short, the idea is to merge humans with machines in order to “better” us as a species.

Project Avatar has set milestones that are already in progress, in order to achieve the goal of a hologram-like avatar in the future that will be controlled by a human from far away through brain wave signals.

What Mr. Itskov is trying to promote, is the idea of an evolutionary strategy of the human race, by uploading consciousness into machines, therefore allowing our minds to live for eternity. There are already existing scientific achievements to start putting this plan into practice. Cybernetic immortality is not outside the realm of possibilities.

The story could have come straight out of a comic book: A young billionaire, has a spiritual transformation (that is what happened according to Itskov), in which he emerges there from with a fundamental belief that in order to stop humankind from destroying planet Earth, he must change humanity itself; by creating immortal cyborgs.

I find it ironic that the software I am using right now to write this blog entry in, is telling me the word “cyborg” is a spelling mistake. Through things like the GF2045 conference, it seems that words such as cyborg are going to transform from a spelling mistake, to a common aspect of our reality.

The comic book similarities continue: in this vision Dmitry has of the future, there are no diseases or illnesses, and everybody will be concentrated on spiritual self-improvement. But the way I see it, if you give human abilities to machines, but fail to transfer core emotions, you end up with a physically superior sociopath.

We are certainly living in an extremely exciting slot within the timeline of humanity. We might have been born a bit too late to explore the world in a sailing ship, with no knowledge of what lies ahead, and we may have been born too early to explore other galaxies in spaceships. Nonetheless, we are spot-on the period in which humanity might change forever. If this technology kicks off, we might be the last set of 100% biological human beings ever.
