Science has done it again. This new technology may render breathing useless in the future. The idea of injecting an oxygen rich liquid is both old and flawed. The removal of carbon dioxide from the bloodstream leads to many problems, therefore making the concept too detrimental to be worthy. However, researchers at the Boston Children’s Hospital have come up with a new idea!
They created micro-particles that can be injected into the bloodstream and oxygenate it. This allows the person injected with this liquid to stop physically breathing completely while these particles carry oxygen.
Right now the injection can keep people alive for 20 to 30 minutes without breathing. There are many medical applications to the project, but the possibilities are limitless in many areas other than medicine.
This pretty much means we are one step closer to being able to “breathe” underwater. After all it is almost the same thing! What would you use this technology for? Let us know in the comments below.
