IKEA a Swedish furniture company, showing initiative and innovation! Who knew 3D prototypes could be useful? With technology evolving every five minutes, IKEA has managed to land themselves at the top.
The innovative idea is an augmented reality function in its 2014 catalogue. How many people have wondered, is this piece of furniture going to suit my house? Is it too big or too small? Uncertainty does not favour anyone.
The idea behind IKEA’s vision is to allow customers to actually see what the product physically looks in their own home. How? IKEA has developed an app compatible with IOS and Android to display their featured catalogue on your smart phones. It sounds absurd furniture shopping in your own home and being able to have a prototype of over 90 different product features in the catalogue. However the development of the new app is not only convenient but fun for the whole family.
Simply place the catalogue on the floor as a reference marker. Using the app on your smart phone, the screen will overlay the product in the selected room allowing them to see a prototype of what it would look like in their homes.
This new app will launch on 25th of August 2013. Offering mobile technology solutions is very handy especially in Western Europe where the average house is as little as 85 square metres! Making it difficult to decide if the furniture will fit or not.
This video shows how the augmented reality function works with the app.
Advanced technology has landed IKEA the new hype in its industry, you be the judge!
