CASE STUDY · MATOS MONITORING APPLICATION
Always-on temperature monitoring for healthcare-critical refrigeration.
System7 developed and continues to improve MATOS Monitoring, a web-based platform that gives healthcare teams live visibility of refrigerator temperature and humidity—helping protect valuable vaccines, patient samples and the continuity of care.
THE PROJECT
Make critical refrigeration status visible, reliable and actionable.
Hospitals, laboratories and healthcare providers rely on refrigeration to protect temperature-sensitive vaccines, medicines and patient samples. When a refrigerator moves outside its approved range, the consequences can be immediate: valuable stock may need to be quarantined or discarded, samples can be compromised, and patients may need to be contacted and recalled.
MATOS Monitoring gives teams a clear, central view of monitored refrigerators and their historical records from anywhere. It captures live temperature and humidity data, supports alerts and reporting, and helps teams respond before a small issue becomes a costly disruption.
Project at a glance
-
Live temperature and humidity monitoring for critical refrigeration.
-
Central access to current readings, historical records, graphs and reports.
-
Alert and status processing designed for continuous, high-frequency updates.
THE CHALLENGE
Keep watch when there is no room for a missed reading.
Critical refrigeration does not pause outside business hours. A temperature excursion can happen overnight, during a busy shift or while staff are focused elsewhere. Manual checks alone can leave too much room for delay, incomplete records and avoidable risk.
The stakes can be substantial. During the COVID-19 response, some vaccine stock required ultra-cold storage of approximately −80°C to −60°C. For hospitals and laboratories, an out-of-range event can also put irreplaceable patient samples at risk—creating not only replacement costs, but administrative work, delays and the difficult task of asking patients to return.
The platform needed to operate as a dependable, always-on service: collecting regular status updates, processing alerts promptly and making the right information easy to find when a response is needed.
OUR APPROACH
Strengthen the flow of data from fridge to response.
System7 focused on the reliability and ongoing performance of the monitoring platform, so frequent device updates and alerts can be processed consistently as the service grows.
Collect the signals that matter. Monitor temperature and humidity across connected refrigerators, with live and historical readings available in one place.
Make exceptions visible. Capture alerts and status changes clearly, so teams can identify potential problems and take action quickly.
Support traceability. Provide graphs, alert history and automatically emailed reports that make records easier to review and share.
Build for continuous operation. Improve the application’s ability to process incoming alerts and regular status updates—received every minute—without compromising the responsiveness of the system.
THE OUTCOME
Greater confidence in the cold chain.
MATOS Monitoring gives healthcare teams an accessible, dependable way to oversee critical refrigeration. Instead of relying solely on manual checks and disconnected records, users can view live and past temperatures, review alert history and receive scheduled reports through one connected platform.
For organisations protecting vaccines, medicines and patient samples, that visibility supports faster action when conditions change. It helps reduce the risk of avoidable loss, protects valuable healthcare assets and gives teams stronger evidence that their refrigeration environment has remained within range.
